Changing WordPress themes

If you visit this page, as opposed to reading my RSS feed, you may have noticed me trying out various new WordPress themes. When I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress (2.5), I wanted to start tagging my posts, and that wasn’t supported by the old theme I was using. So I tried the more modern Mandigo theme for a while, but it was a little bombastic for my taste. Now I’m trying Misty Look by Sadish Balasubramanian. Actually, I just lifted the idea for both of them from Jason Kuter, so thanks for that Jason!

I was just looking for something calm and simple. But just like when you go shopping for what used to be called “tennis shoes,” you have to sift through an improbable superabundance of doodads and splashy colors just to find something simple.

Of course, if you only ever read the feed, then none of this matters to you.

  1. I actually took that picture from the ferry headed from Boston to Provincetown. If you look closely, you can see a reflection of me in the window on top of the lighthouse.

  2. Wow, attributed in Ned’s blog, I feel like a celebrity :) Though I did read this in my rss reader. I always put a bunch of work into my theme and then while reading other people’s sites in rss I realize that most other people are doing the same thing. I try and look at it like changing your own oil, sure someone else can do it for less money and time, but it justs makes me feel like I am accomplishing something when I do it myself.
